Could someone please give me a warm-up technique for my singing?
I don't have a vocal coach at this moment, and I really need a warm-up technique before I sing. So could someone plz help me with this issue?

Then I open my mouth as wide as I can several times. Then I simply go through few scales - low to high. Then I practice one the songs I'm fixing to sing. This always works for me.
If you've got a few days to practice just do the warm ups then practice about an hour a day, but don't wear yourself out. I also gargle saltwater. And this time of year I take a sinus pill.

I'm good at All of these things...Piano i'm good, but not great, Violin playing I have alway's wanted to do, Acting I am great at...I can start crying right now..., Singing i'M okay at, and I LOVE DANCING. What should I do???

I think it is better for you to do what you truly feel! If you do what someone else says then your not happy with it later. You can do anything, you can even do all these and after gaining more experience with each activity you may even pick up a career like Jennifer Lopez did with her dancing first, then she caught on to acting and singing, just like you she got started with one then it lead to another. Your gonna end up artistic and have a great opportunity in the future!

Reply:I have a solution for you. Musical Theater! You're required to act, sing, and dance. Study acting/ musical theater formally and you'll love it. If you can play an instrument as well you're ever more employable.

What is the best way for me to warm up my voice before singing?
The best things to do is to drink room temperature water. That way your vocal chords do not get shocked from getting too cold or hot.
Also do some yawning sounds. For instance go really high and loud and drop in about 10 seconds. A lot of singers do that. Then I would simply do some scale exercises and elevate them as you go along. Even some simple normal talking can help. But do not work out your vocal chords too much as they will tire and you will not sound as good as you are!

Oh wow... memories of my childhood.
First- just know that people will not see you as nervous as you precieve yourself.
Next... OK... you know you know how to sing right? You do it just fine in class. Just because there are a few more/older people there doesn't change your voice. Being nervous about them being there will.
As you look at the audience- focus on the kids from school you see and feel like you are singing in front of your choir that you are with everyday.
It will get easier. But never gets easy.
HAVE FUN!

Heard it in a club the other day. I think this is what the song is called as it's repeated four times for the chorus. The singer is has quite a deep 'grungey' voice. I *think* there is a tame guitar solo.

Singing voice messed up?
My singing voice was awesome and I loved to sing loud and soft but then something happened and I can't sing as high any more and my voice just stops... I was wondering if any one can tell me what happened to my voice...and if it is possible to have your voice change if you sing soft too much...just wondering it would help if you could tell me if there is any way to help it.

Maybe it's because you grew up again or something. Dont drink a lot of milk before you sing because it creates phlegm (i dont know how to spell it) and drink lots of water. Try not to cough because it does something to your vocal chords so try to minimize that. The cold also does damage to it.

Our voices do change as we get older, even girl's have a "voice break" but less than guys when in their teens.
If you can't sing as high anymore, you could always do some vocal exercises (scales, humming up and down, etc.) to increase your range. And it strengthens your voice.

We go through the park district. A lot cheaper. The costumes were $35-$50, but we only paid like $15 a month for once a week sessions.
They do have a generic dvd, but most people just tape their kids part themselves.

We go through the park district. A lot cheaper. The costumes were $35-$50, but we only paid like $15 a month for once a week sessions.
They do have a generic dvd, but most people just tape their kids part themselves.
And the performance cost $2 per person.
I would love to put my daughter in a fancy thing like you mention above, but can't swing it that way.

Reply:Easy - you only place your child in programs that don't require that. Try local parks and recreation or the YMCA.
It's a choice - just like anything else - if your choose to put your child in those things then you are agreeing to play by their rules.
I have two daughters in cheerleading and get nickeled and dimed to death with fees/fundraisers - but my kids love it therefore I will play the game.

I'm about to give up on singing. Help please?!?
So I love singing, with a passion!! But lately i've been doing it very badly. And it's sad, cause I used to be really good at it.
I didn't know if it was just me so I posted a couple youtube videos of me singing, just audio no pictures of me.
And people told me it was good, but more people told me it was bad and I have to work on singing!
Well, I always am working on my singing, I sing all the time and try to correct it. But it's just how I sing.
I had singing lessons but ater the first one I quit.
Because it was too uncomfortable for me.
I have no confidence in singing at all and it makes it worse when people are putting it down.
As it is, I have no confidence in myself.
Please someone help!!

well, without confidence, nothing is possible. i was in your position at one time. but i didnt give up. find the genre that fits YOU not what other want you to. with perserverance, you will be fine. dont listen to the people on Youtube, they are always tryna make you feel bad.
Reply:I think it is so important you have a passion. Please remember the very first reason why you like singing. Don't matter what people say because most of the time, people around you who are not deeply involve with music, don't know how to judge well. You are your own judge. If you think you're good, you're good. The first step for the passion of singing to waste away is doubting yourself. Whenever you that you doubt your singing ability, don't think further, instead stray away from that thought.
Quote from The Carpentar's hit "Sing", lyrics, " Sing, sing a song, sing out loud, sing out strong. Don't worry that it's not good enough for everyone else to hear, just sing, sing a song."
I believe you are further demoralised when people put you down, BUT, you have a choice to tell yourself, "Why are they doing this, am I really that bad" or "They don't know anything. I believe in myself strongly. I won't let my passion die out because of them. " Choose not to listen to others and have a positive attitude, I really hope this helps because it's no longer about your ability, it's your confidence and confidence is a choice.

Reply:First of all, you must enjoy what you do, nobody is born knowing it all and some people need to work harder than others.
Secondly, you should hear to everybody nicely but not LISTEN to everybody, there will be always people that won't like you and it is just that. I mean, even Jesus was hated for how many?...are you with me? so...back to the first rule...Enjoy what you do.
One bad decision you made was to quit your voice lessons after the first try, you just didn't give yourself the opportunity to understand what it was, nor you give the opportunity to your teacher. Look for a GOOD voice teacher and stick to it for a while until your understanding of singing begin to make sense to you.
And last but not least, try the following breathing technique and implement it to your singing:
The diaphragmatic breathing will help your voice to resonate full and free of tensions; will avoid sore throats and vocal fatigue. That is why a good breathing technique is very important to have.
Here the short version on breathing support:
1) Lay down on your back and take notice of how your abdominal area moves easy up when you inhale, down when you exhale. No tension and nothing else involved in the process right? Ok, then next step.
2) Standing up, find the same breath process you do, but this time, the gravity is doing its job and there are other muscles involved that allow you to be standing up plus...your chest will be down or collapsed. Then, stand straight, do not over do it, just straight and raise your arms. Get one hand down slowly and find your sternum, get the other hand down and get it where your other hand is. Can you feel how high your chest feels? Right! that is the position we want. Did you move anything besides your arms? If you did, go back and try it again. Are your shoulders relaxed or up? If they are up or tense, go back and try it again.
3) Once you are in a standing straight position, then recreate the sensation of you breathing while laying down...It might seem that you cannot breath deep with this straight position, believe me it is possible, keep trying until you get the same relaxation process you experienced when laying down.
Note: If this was not enough trouble lol! your chest MUST stay up when you release the air.
4) Remember, never during this process you must experience any tension, try this in short sessions of 5-10 min. Once you feel comfortable with this, then you are getting ready to start making sounds. Get back with me and I will give you some exercises. But before anything else, you must master breathing. Good luck and HAVE FUN while getting to know your body and your instrument!

Quitting lessons after one lesson is a bad idea. You can't fix anything in just one lesson. If you keep practicing bad habits you ingrain them into your muscle memory. You need to learn how to create NEW habits and you will need some instruction on how to do that. If you don't like the first teacher you find then find another one. Voice lessons SHOULD make you uncomfortable. A good teacher will take you outside your comfort zone. Quitting because of that is defeating the purpose of taking lessons.
As for confidence, be careful what you tell yourself because you believe what you tell yourself. If other people bother you then DON'T ASK THEM FOR THEIR OPINION! If you are not able to do something say "I am not able to do that YET. But I am learning." The way you talk to yourself has a very big affect on your confidence. Talk to yourself the way you would talk to a friend. Being highly critical is not productive.

I didn't know if it was just me so I posted a couple youtube videos of me singing, just audio no pictures of me.
And people told me it was good, but more people told me it was bad and I have to work on singing!
Well, I always am working on my singing, I sing all the time and try to correct it. But it's just how I sing.
I had singing lessons but ater the first one I quit.
Because it was too uncomfortable for me.
I have no confidence in singing at all and it makes it worse when people are putting it down.
As it is, I have no confidence in myself.

well, without confidence, nothing is possible. i was in your position at one time. but i didnt give up. find the genre that fits YOU not what other want you to. with perserverance, you will be fine. dont listen to the people on Youtube, they are always tryna make you feel bad.
Reply:I think it is so important you have a passion. Please remember the very first reason why you like singing. Don't matter what people say because most of the time, people around you who are not deeply involve with music, don't know how to judge well. You are your own judge. If you think you're good, you're good. The first step for the passion of singing to waste away is doubting yourself. Whenever you that you doubt your singing ability, don't think further, instead stray away from that thought.

I believe you are further demoralised when people put you down, BUT, you have a choice to tell yourself, "Why are they doing this, am I really that bad" or "They don't know anything. I believe in myself strongly. I won't let my passion die out because of them. " Choose not to listen to others and have a positive attitude, I really hope this helps because it's no longer about your ability, it's your confidence and confidence is a choice.

Reply:First of all, you must enjoy what you do, nobody is born knowing it all and some people need to work harder than others.
Secondly, you should hear to everybody nicely but not LISTEN to everybody, there will be always people that won't like you and it is just that. I mean, even Jesus was hated for how many?...are you with me? so...back to the first rule...Enjoy what you do.
One bad decision you made was to quit your voice lessons after the first try, you just didn't give yourself the opportunity to understand what it was, nor you give the opportunity to your teacher. Look for a GOOD voice teacher and stick to it for a while until your understanding of singing begin to make sense to you.
And last but not least, try the following breathing technique and implement it to your singing:
The diaphragmatic breathing will help your voice to resonate full and free of tensions; will avoid sore throats and vocal fatigue. That is why a good breathing technique is very important to have.
Here the short version on breathing support:
1) Lay down on your back and take notice of how your abdominal area moves easy up when you inhale, down when you exhale. No tension and nothing else involved in the process right? Ok, then next step.
2) Standing up, find the same breath process you do, but this time, the gravity is doing its job and there are other muscles involved that allow you to be standing up plus...your chest will be down or collapsed. Then, stand straight, do not over do it, just straight and raise your arms. Get one hand down slowly and find your sternum, get the other hand down and get it where your other hand is. Can you feel how high your chest feels? Right! that is the position we want. Did you move anything besides your arms? If you did, go back and try it again. Are your shoulders relaxed or up? If they are up or tense, go back and try it again.
3) Once you are in a standing straight position, then recreate the sensation of you breathing while laying down...It might seem that you cannot breath deep with this straight position, believe me it is possible, keep trying until you get the same relaxation process you experienced when laying down.
Note: If this was not enough trouble lol! your chest MUST stay up when you release the air.
4) Remember, never during this process you must experience any tension, try this in short sessions of 5-10 min. Once you feel comfortable with this, then you are getting ready to start making sounds. Get back with me and I will give you some exercises. But before anything else, you must master breathing. Good luck and HAVE FUN while getting to know your body and your instrument!

How do i know if i am raising my larynx during singing and going up in pitch?
Locate your adam's apple with your index finger, inhale and take notice of your laryinx movement it is more than likely to go down a little bit, after that, start singing a phrase. If at the moment you start singing you feel in your index the larynx is raising...tadaaaa! you are raising it! :P
Your larynx must remain floating, flexible and the air that passes by is what makes the sound, not muscle action to squeeze your throat while singing must appear. Good question by the way! Enjoy the process of learning :) good luck!

Take your index fingers and trace down from that hinge, still on your cheek, in front of your ear. You should feel a length-wise trough opening up, the more you open your mouth. This is the proper way to open your mouth/drop your jaw for singing. Always start at the hinge, and never lead with the point of your chin. Do you see, while opening, that your larynx is allowed to stay nice and quiet in its own place? Try singing like that. Start with something really easy ( to the point of silly) like a children's song, and observe how nice and quiet things can stay.
As you go up in pitch. you will need to open further- always gently, never with force- and add breath energy from your breathing muscles around your waist. These two things always go hand-in-hand for high notes. None of us can get away with doing just one of them...
Now that you know what all this looks like, you will have to get used to the feeling of it, without the help of a mirror. ( It'd look pretty dumb at this point, always looking in the mirror)
Do you know how you hold a pencil? Well, your hand does, because you trained at it when you were very small. We need to train our muscles to know the feeling of "right" and "wrong" for singing as well. ( A singing teacher comes in real handy at this point, becasue s/he can tell you immediately , and help you fix it just as fast)
Always pay attention to what you are doing while you sing.
I know I will have offended plenty of people by saying this, but good singing is never just putting your heart and soul into it. That comes at the end, after you've learned how to do it properly ( and sometimes cold-bloodedly, at first).

We won't fall down and risk injury, thank goodness, but there goes one note and then another that we'll never be able to put right unless we pay attention again.

Reply:Well, it cannot cause long term damage unless you are like Throwing up all the time. I do Sing and I have taught singing and I have saw studies on the effects of vocal chords done by doctors. Throwing up can cause strain on your vocal chords like clearing your throat is the worst thing a singer can do!!!!! Usually after throwing if my Vocal chords are not a clear and on easy to sing because they are strained and damaged and need to recover. Don't let anyone who does not know fool you, any strain on your vocal chords yelling, throwing up, clearing your throat, singing the wrong why can and if done frequent can cause nods on your vocal chords which will need to be surgically removed and is a very dangerous surgery for any professional singer to go through. So, I will say what everyone is thinking I hope you don't have a eating disorder and that is why you are asking this question!! If so take care of that first and if you let your Love to sing be your strength to fighting through this problem.

However, someone who throws up daily or almost that often is probably doing a lot of damage to the vocal chords, along with all the rest of the body.

My cat has taken up opera singing?
My cat Samson has decided to become an opera singer. I'm fine with that, except that he likes to practice at 4am. I'm not sure why he's decided this is a good time to practice all of a sudden, but he's been consistently doing it for about a week now. I've tried getting up and feeding him thinking he must be hungry. Nope, he just eats a couple bites and starts singing as soon as I get back in bed. I think he must be kind of shy because he always quits practicing as soon as I get out of bed. Once I'm up, he stops and takes a nap. Arggggh! He's so cute and lovable that I can't be mad at him, but I also need my sleep. How can I convince my budding opera star to practice during normal (human) waking hours? Or at least to sing quietly to his sister until the humans are awake? Has anyone's cat ever picked up this habit? Did it stop eventually, or should I just go buy some earplugs?

PS-I don't like squirting, yelling, or any form of physical punishment. Closing the bedroom door does no good--his lovely voice carries throughout the whole house.

And yes he can smell them even though he is inside and they are not. He is doing this at night because that's when the female cats are on the prowl as they are hunting.
Have him fixed and it should calm him down and he should stop meowing at night.

Dale and Grace were a like a white version of Shirley and Lee, fellow Louisianans, to whom they sound very similar.
