I have a singing Competition comming up and i need serious help plz!!!!!!?

okay so for my competition I have to sing for one of my songs "Fallin" by alicia keys, my problem is, is that Im more of a classical singer and broadway but this competition is all about being able to do all different types of Genra's of music. My question is, is how can i sing falling without sounding like im shouting. I sing in my head voice but then i just sound soft and "Classicle like" and this song is a stronge song. So how do i get that power in my voice without hurting my voice expecially when it comes to the higher notes.

Reply:I just went to you tube to listen to this song before commenting. I think it's a monster of a song, especially if you don't have that kind of voice. I don't think it's impossible but you can't develop that kind of sound in a short time. It's a very physical song so you need to be quite strong and fit to push the breath over your vocal cords. I just wish you loads of luck, and you'll be better than the other guys at your kind of song anyway.





P.S. Have you watched A.K. singing live? She is using an awful lot of neck muscle! Now although she sounds great, I don't like her technique! (The song on YT was a video, she was probably mouthing the words so the muscle work didn't show.) Are they compelling you to sing this song, or can you change track?

I have a singing recital coming up, and i HATE my song!?

okay, so im a very expirienced performer, but i have very little singing experience, and this year i started taking voice lessons. my teacher thinks that im ready to be in our recital, but i am NOT looking forward to it. i hate my song with every fiber of my being, and i also know that i am going to look incredibly stupid singing "A Spoon Full of SUgar" from Mary Poppins while a bunch of perrrfect sopranos who are 5 years younger then me belt out beautiful broadway ballads. i have no issue with performing, but if i realize that massive humiliation awaits me, i dont want to put myself in that situation. WHat do i do?

You're making a pretty good argument for why you shouldn't sing the song. Have you asked your teacher why she picked that particular song? Maybe she thinks it fits your pitch and will showcase your talent, but I'm sure there are other songs that would be equivalent in pitch. If you just share with her how you feel (politely, and not dramatically), she may allow you to choose another song, or at the very least select another song for you to perform. If you're taking voice lessons, you are paying her (or your parents are), so she should be willing to allow you some leeway in the song you sing for a recital.

Reply:Sorry about the song, but I suppose it could be worse. If you act it a ton, you'll make the younger kids look pretty silly. I'm certainly not a great singer by any stretch, and learned that same song at one point; nonetheless, a fun performance will be preferable to the audience than one that just displays vocal talent. Believe me, the audience will prefer it.

(BTW i think it is a great song and you can really have fun with it...) BTW the 5yr younger ones if the chose "Broadway hits" than their prob. gonna sound worse cause their not as experienced as you + because their younger they'll be like "wow, that was cool i wanna do that song!) so be and inspiration too other people... and add fun and humour to ur songs... (its a good skill to learn!)
