Does throwing up hurt my singing voice?

i love to sing, does throwing up do anything long term to my vocal chords? honestly
Does throwing up hurt my singing voice?
why? do you plan of throwing up regularly before you sing?
Reply:Well, it cannot cause long term damage unless you are like Throwing up all the time. I do Sing and I have taught singing and I have saw studies on the effects of vocal chords done by doctors. Throwing up can cause strain on your vocal chords like clearing your throat is the worst thing a singer can do!!!!! Usually after throwing if my Vocal chords are not a clear and on easy to sing because they are strained and damaged and need to recover. Don't let anyone who does not know fool you, any strain on your vocal chords yelling, throwing up, clearing your throat, singing the wrong why can and if done frequent can cause nods on your vocal chords which will need to be surgically removed and is a very dangerous surgery for any professional singer to go through. So, I will say what everyone is thinking I hope you don't have a eating disorder and that is why you are asking this question!! If so take care of that first and if you let your Love to sing be your strength to fighting through this problem.
Reply:if you love to sing, you shouldnt risk it! but honestly i think it would make your voice turn out wispy.
Reply:probably not, but you'll have an extremely select audience
Reply:Has far has i know (and i had singing classes) NO.Don't worry...just don't sing if your throat is not well.Good luck!
Reply:yes it cuases acid reflux damaging your vocal chords you will have raspy voice from now on
Reply:I am not a health professional, but I would think that all that acid would harm all of the throat. When a person is sick once or twice a year, that probably wouldn't do much. However, someone who throws up daily or almost that often is probably doing a lot of damage to the vocal chords, along with all the rest of the body.
Reply:Not generally, but it depends on how how badly you vomit. In other words, do you feel a twinge or something from in your throat? That would hurt it, temporarily.
Reply:No it dosen't but however if long term it tears ur vocals upp...
Reply:umm yeah!

there is always gonna be stomach acid in ur throw up

burns the throat..thus makeing the voice weaker
Reply:BB,

I expect it can. But most people don't throw up very often - it's not normal.

If you are throwing up lots - why not see your family doctor. It may be that you are developing something that she or he could help with.

You could also then check the answer to this question with them.

Good Luck
